Date nights on a budget might seem like an oxymoron but not really. It shouldn’t take much to have fun with your spouse or even your friends. But if you are the type of girl that wants evening plans or weekend plans, let’s dive into some ways you tap into local freebies.
Eventbrite
I’m kicking off with the big dawgs, because this is really where you can find the bulk of the best activities. You can enter your location or even the location you will be if you are traveling (just saying) and click on the Free category. I learned about the Chipotle Festival, because of Eventbrite. (Sadly, I’m not sure if that event exists anymore)
Community Calendars
Community calendars such as your city’s event calendar or even a local magazine event calendar will always have something free. For example, most major cities have a visit [insert your city] site to boost tourism in that area. As of this post, VisitKC.com has one free event plus one $5 event. My favorite local magazine, Kansas City Magazine, has a loaded online calendar. Seek those types of calendars for free events.
Facebook Events
Similar to Eventbrite and even community calendars, your favorite local restaurant/winery/brewery will likely post their events on Facebook to promote the event broadly. Likely these activities are free to enter but will cost to enjoy a meal or drink.
Community Center
The community center isn’t just for working out, you might catch a cool concert or art event at your local community center. Sometimes a community center can connect with the city to host community events or even festivals. Sometimes festivals are free and sometimes they do cost.
Shopping Centers
Shopping centers or malls host events to get you to the space. From concerts to classes, you can find free events.
The Library
Y’all, I took a free salsa class with my husband. We took about five classes right after we got married. Every Thursday night, we were in the library getting our cha-cha on.
