My line sister keeps telling me I’m glowing. I’m like, “Thanks girl, I got a new skincare routine.” Because veganism isn’t just about what’s on my plate, I’m trying to make the world a little least cruel. I started with food but slowly worked my way through all the items I touched. Next up on my list is my skincare and body care. I have combination skin myself and I’ve been trying different brands that are vegan and cruelty-free to help get my skincare all the way together.
Let’s pause for a second to note what I just said, vegan and cruelty-free. Shockingly these are both not mutually connected. As some things can be vegan but not cruelty-free. I am always aiming for both. As veganism because more widely accessible, more mainstream brands are hopping on the bandwagon to collect the vegan coin without doing the proper work to be both vegan and cruelty-free. Look out for both labels on the bottle. I like to search for the V and bunny signs to know I’m good to go.
When I start my skincare routine, I wash my face with a cream-based cleanser especially when my skin is extremely dry. I feel the cream is also helpful when my skin is a little oily too because it absorbs plenty of the moisturizer.
The biggest must-haves in a cleanser for me are cream-based and hydrating. Whether it’s coconut milk or oat milk I need interesting yet quality ingredients to be at the forefront. Each of the items are also fairly affordable.
Cleansers I love:
Pacifica Coconut Milk Cream to Foam Face Wash
e.l.f. Holy Hydration! Daily Cleanser
I’m obsessed with toners. It’s an easy way to keep your skin hydrated no matter the season. After applying my cleanser and pat drying my skin, I apply a toner. I prefer mist toners but the Fenty Beauty Fat Water is so bomb, I had to include it. Toners for me, brighten my skin and help maintain moisture throughout the day. Also if you need a quick pick me up put your favorite toner is a travel-size spray bottle in your purse.
Toners I love:
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater
After the first two steps, I need to finish things off with a moisturizer. For the most part, I like to use sunscreen all year round. But when I know I’m not leaving the house, I will apply moisturizer without sunscreen so I also included Acure’s Day Cream in the list. I also like a light tint of coverage for any uneven skin and achieve that look with TLB’s Just a Tint Moisturizer.
Moisturizer I love:
Pacifica Vegan Collagen Every Day Lotion
I will cleanse my face with a makeup wipe or the makeup remover down below and apply night cream at night. This night cream has to be heavy to keep my skin moisturized all night long. e.l.f’s Pure Skin Moisturizer is loaded with things like oat milk to keep my skin moisturized.
Night cream:
Pacifica Dreamy Youth Day and Night Face Cream
The following items I do use regularly but I didn’t have duplicates of the same thing. I only use Derma-E Hydrating Eye Cream. And if I’m honest, I only use it when I remember, but I will need to get better at that. But I remove my makeup with Bliss makeup remover and I apply a sleep mask a few times a week to wake up so moisturized.
Specialty items:
Pacifica Wake Up Beautiful Sleepover Mask
Bliss makeup melt eye makeup remover gel
Weekly
Each week, I treat my face to an exfoliator. My tried and true is Origins Modern Friction. I have been using that FOR YEARS! When my skin is a little more oily, this treatment is fabulous. Don’t forget your lips either, because those pretty kissers can get dry too. Exfoliate the whole face baby.
Exfoliants
Pacifica Glow Baby Brightening Peel Pads
Acure Brightening Facial Scrub
Origins MODERN FRICTION Nature’s Gentle Dermabrasion
Bliss 10% Glycolic Acid Peel Pads for Face
