Six Black-Owned Skincare from Affordable to Luxury

Supporting Black-owned businesses has been a goal for the past several years. (Honestly, since I knew what business was Black-owned.) My obsession with Black-owned skincare or haircare lines began in college. As a result, CURLS, Shea Moisture (this business is no longer Black-owned but is still Black founded), and Camille Rose were my go-to haircare products back in the day. Though this list of Black-owned skincare lines alone includes skincare, I’m truly only scratching the surface.

Why support Black-owned Skincare?

Black-owned skincare businesses not only support the Black community but create jobs for the local community it services. It has been said that small businesses run the American economy. I choose to always vote with my dollar and support businesses I support ethically and support because of their mission.

These businesses can get at times get a bad rep for poor customer service or high prices. However, It’s important to remember these businesses are probably small and mighty, truly doing their best and learning on the go.

Several of the products mentioned below were developed from necessity. Meaning, there were no products available on the market to work for black and brown people so the founder developed something that would. Do not assume a Black-owned skincare line is only for black and brown folks but know it was designed with the Black community in the forefront. Plus some of these brands are vegan, cruelty-free, and made with natural ingredients.

Where can you find Black-owned products?

Black-owned beauty products are now more easily accessible. With many amazing brands on the shelves at Target, Ulta, and even Walgreens. It’s very easy to support Black-owned beauty brands. encouraging to help you spend your dollars on Black-owned products. Also, several of these brands are women-owned. From affordable to luxury, let’s dive into the list of Black-owned skincare brands.

Affordable

As mentioned previously, Black-owned businesses do receive a bad rep for being pricier than more widespread brands. Why is that? Likely because of the cost associated with the ingredients and to pay staff a fair wage. My definition of affordable is a single item is under $20.
